Redmond is nationally recognized as the center of technology as it is the location of many prominent high tech companies, such as Microsoft, Nintendo and AT&T.  Redmond is an award winning city known throughout the Pacific Northwest as a great place to raise a family and grow a business. Once a small town whose economy depended on agriculture and logging, Redmond is now a thriving city that houses a population of over 40,000 and a diverse range of businesses employing over 43,000 workers. Despite the changes brought about by thirty years of rapid growth, Redmond has continued to value its unique natural environment. 

Incorporated in 1912, Redmond is currently the 7th most populated city in King County and the 16th most populous in the state with a residential population of about 49,890 within a total area of 16.85 square miles.

 

Economy

Redmond’s location is one main reason for the increasing number of businesses moving into the city. Redmond is located about 20 minutes from downtown Seattle and is close to Bellevue. It is a hub that is attracting traditional commerce and entrepreneurs.  

Redmond is perhaps best known as being the center of technology with companies such as Microsoft and Nintendo. Microsoft is the city’s largest employer with over 30,000 employees. Microsoft plans to increase this number by expanding the Redmond campus by 1.1 million square feet, with an increase of 7,000 to 15,000 new employees.

Other prominent businesses in the area include Nintendo, Eddie Bauer, Concur, AT&T and Physio-Control. The technology industry in Redmond as a whole as continued to expand in the last few years.

 

Community

With its location between the Cascade Mountains and Puget Sound, there are a wide variety of activities available for it's residents. With plenty of activities within the city itself, there are more than 34 parks, 1000 acres of open space and 25 miles of trails for residents to use. Redmond is nicknamed the “Bicycle Capital of the Northwest” because of its annual bike race in the city.
