Derrick Morton, CEO & Founder, FlowPLay
Derrick Morton is Chief Executive officer of FlowPlay, a company developing virtual worlds where casual games drive the economy. Derrick began his career in casual games in 1994 as VP Development of Graphix Zone – publisher of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune PC games among others. In 1999 he joined iWin as VP, Executive Producer. After iWin was purchased by Uproar for $80 million and Uproar was purchased by Vivendi for $140 million, he became VP, Product over all of Vivendi’s casual games websites – Uproar, iWin, Virtual Vegas and Flipside -- which in 2002 had a combined audience of over 20 million monthly uniques. He left Vivendi to join GameHouse in January 2003 with the chief responsibility of running GameHouse.com. GameHouse was acquired by RealNetworks a year later.
At RealNetworks, Derrick was GM of Mobile Games, a division he founded. His team developed and distributed over 20 titles during his tenure. He left to form FlowPlay in September 2006. Derrick attended USC School of CinemaTelevision on a full scholarship and received a BA with magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors. He received an MBA from UCLAs Anderson School.

Jay has been active in the game industry since 1991 in both management and creative sides of the business. He started in the industry as a Game Designer at Crystal Dynamics, has been a CEO of his own game company for 9 years, and managed multiple projects for large publishers as Executive Producer and Creative Director for companies such as WildTangent, and Sierra Online. Jay has shipped over 40 products in his 17 year career and is working as the Director of Games at The Amazing Society, a studio of Gazillion Entertainment.
Scott Warner, Partner, Garvey Schubert Barer
Scott Warner represents a diverse range of clients in matters dealing with high technology, intellectual property, art, and entertainment law matters. His art and entertainment practice focuses on the literary and visual arts, music, rights of publicity and new media. Clients include writers, artists, publishers, musicians, game companies, museums and theatre groups. He assists clients with all aspects of their intellectual property rights and business transactions, including employment contracts, trademark and copyright issues, non-disclosure agreements, publishing contracts and licensing and distribution agreements. Scott tirelessly contributes his time to organizations that support the arts and entertainment community. He is a member of the Advisory Board of 911 Media Arts Center and a frequent speaker and host for the Washington Lawyers for the Arts Brown Bag series. Because of his expertise and reputation in the industry, he was tapped by the WSBA to serve as chair for the 2002 Sports, Art and Entertainment CLE.
Scott's technology practice encompasses computer law, e-commerce, and other Internet related legal issues. He also advises clients on general business transactions involving the development and transfer of technology (with extensive focus on advanced technologies in Europe and Asia (particularly Taiwan and China). In this practice area clients include software developers, telecommunications companies, hardware manufacturers, on-line service providers, web site developers and other content providers, and multimedia companies. Scott is committed to organizations that promote the growth of technology and is a long time member of the WSA, the Computer Law Association (CLA), and the Northwest Entrepreneur Network (NWEN). He serves on WTIA's planning committee for the Wireless SIG and heads up the legal focus project at NWEN.
By facilitating the cultivation of relationships with major companies like AOL, NIKE, and Intel, and working with clients to develop practical, creative and cost-effective strategies, Scott enables his clients to develop and exploit their intellectual property. He has represented clients with respect to domain name disputes in the U.S. courts and under the UDRP, including successfully protecting the rights of Venus and Serena Williams to use and exploit their own names. Scott is a frequent speaker and lecturer on intellectual property, high technology, technology transfer, and arts and entertainment law issues.
He has been named by his peers as a "Super Lawyer" in Washington Law & Politics magazine in 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Washington CEO in 2006 included Scott on a list of "Washington's Most Amazing Attorneys" in the area of Intellectual Property Rights, as selected through a voting process involving law firms throughout the state.
Andrew Billard, Commercial Services, U.S. Consulate General Shanghai
Andrew Billard is currently serving as a Commercial Officer (CO) for the Department of Commerce Foreign Commercial Service on his first tour at the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai.
Prior to joining the Commercial Service in 2009, Andrew spent 7 years in China working in the private sector and speaks fluent Mandarin. Most recently he served in China industry research as a research team leader and later as a marketing manager for Interfax China. Before that he worked in free lance consulting and in business education for a Cambridge education program.
He received a BA in International Trade and Chinese Studies from the University of Connecticut and an EMBA taken in Chinese from Macau Open International University/Nankai University. Andrew, his wife Nannah, and son Aiden arrived in Shanghai in July 2009 for a two-year assignment. Andrew’s hometown is Hebron, Connecticut.
Wistar Kay (Moderator), Washington Interactive Network
Wistar Kay has had an extensive career in international business development in diverse fields ranging from the hospitality and software industries to nonprofit organizations. She developed the Information and Communication Technology program for the Washington State trade office and worked closely with ICT companies advising them on their international business development strategy. In 2005 she led a group of game companies to China as part of a Governor’s trade mission, which led to the establishment of PopCap’s office in China. In 2008, as Executive Director of Stellar International Networks, she produced a nine day program in four cities in China promoting a dialogue between Chinese and English speaking women executives on global management and social issues. Previously Wistar served as Executive Director of the Japan America Society for the State of Washington, organizing several trade missions to Japan focused on wireless and e-commerce application development. Wistar is from an expat family raised in Turkey, China and Japan. She was born and raised in Japan and attended college in Japan, the US and France.
