Seattle's downtown has a population of over 55,000, and has grown by 63% since 1990 -  compared to 14% nationwide. More than 1,200 apartments and condominium units are planned or under construction in the downtown area. With an average vacancy rate of around 1% for the area, these units are not expected to stay vacant for long. Projects in the works for 2000 are varied: everything from middle class apartments, to high-end condominiums, to low income studio apartments. Projects include:

  • Belltown Heights Condominiums- A 48-unit eight-story residential building that will include about 7,500 square feet of ground floor retail space and two below grade parking levels.
  • Belltown Lofts and The Courtyard Building- A 28-unit apartment renovation project and an additional 28 new units in an adjacent structure to be called the Courtyard Building.
